The basics

What Is a Balloon Wall?

It's a solid surface made entirely of balloons, typically 6 to 10 feet across, that does the job of a backdrop.

An arch frames a spot and a garland draws a line, but a balloon wall covers everything. It's built on a grid or freestanding frame, so it can stand in front of any wall in any room and become the photo backdrop, the background for a stage, the wall behind the cake or a branded step-and-repeat.

No other balloon piece packs as much impact into each square foot. A wall works for birthdays, wedding receptions, grad parties, gender reveals, holiday parties and company events, and every photo in front of it looks finished because there's no gap where the room behind can peek through.

Wall styles

Types of Balloon Walls We Build

There are five ways to build one, and each has its own look and price point.

Organic balloon walls

Balloons of every size layered across the entire surface give an organic wall a soft, cloud-like depth. It's the fullest and most luxurious option and the one couples and shower hosts tend to choose. It also takes the most balloons, which puts it at the top of the price list.

Grid and link balloon walls

A grid wall, which you may see called a link wall or quick link wall, uses special linking balloons tied into a net so every balloon lines up in tidy rows. Because each balloon is a pixel, you can lay out a checkerboard, stripes, a heart or a simple shape. It's bold and graphic and ideal for brand colors and team colors.

Framed balloon walls

Here the balloons fill a shaped frame: a rectangle, a ring or a tall chiara-style panel with an arched top. The outline does much of the styling for you. The arched frame reads elegant, the square one reads modern and the ring reads playful.

Foil and mylar balloon walls

Foil walls are built from mylar shapes, usually metallic hearts, stars or squares. They throw light around, look sharp on camera and contain no latex, which matters for guests with allergies and for venues and hospitals that don't permit latex.

Floating and lighted balloon walls

A floating wall is made of helium balloons on ribbons, anchored in rows, so the whole surface sways gently. It's beautiful for a few hours and then starts to droop, so we plan it for short events. Lighted walls weave in LED strings or light-up balloons for evening receptions and countdown parties.

Uses

Ways to Use a Balloon Wall

One wall can handle several jobs at the same party, which is why it's worth the space.

Balloon photo wall

The selfie and group-shot spot. Add a name in vinyl or a light-up sign and there will be a line for it all night.

Cake and dessert table backdrop

A wall behind the sweets keeps photos clean and hides the kitchen, the coat rack or the exit sign behind it.

Stage and head-table background

For toasts, DJs, award moments and wedding party tables.

Branded step-and-repeat

A grid wall in company colors with a logo panel, made for launches, galas and conference booths.

Room divider

Screens off a catering line, a bar setup or a storage corner in a rented hall or church fellowship room.

Gender reveal moment

A neutral wall with a hidden pop section, or a wall that turns pink or blue on the reveal side.

Occasions

Balloon Walls for Birthdays, Weddings, Graduations and Holidays

These are the celebrations that book balloon walls most often.

  • Birthdays: walls for kids' parties and the 18th, 21st and 30th, often with a name or an age set into the design.
  • Weddings and bridal showers: ivory, white and blush organic walls behind the sweetheart table or at the reception door.
  • Graduations and prom: grid walls in school colors with the class year, plus glam walls for prom photos.
  • Gender reveals and baby showers: a neutral wall with a reveal built in, or a soft pastel wall for the shower.
  • Valentine's Day: foil heart walls in red, pink and rose gold.
  • Christmas and New Year's Eve: red, green and gold for the holidays; black, gold and silver chrome for the countdown.
  • Halloween and Easter: orange and black or pastel walls for school carnivals, church events and neighborhood parties.
  • Company events: branded walls for ribbon cuttings, galas and conferences uptown.

Installation

How We Install a Balloon Wall Without Damaging Your Walls

The simple answer: nothing we build gets attached to your walls.

Each balloon wall stands on its own weighted frame. At home, that keeps tape and glue dots from peeling paint. At venues it's often a must: hotel ballrooms uptown, many warehouse-style event spaces in South End and NoDa, and plenty of neighborhood clubhouses don't allow tape, nails or adhesive on their walls. A freestanding wall can also slide a few feet on the day if the layout changes.

  1. 1

    Measure

We confirm wall size, ceiling height, outlets for any lighting and the route from the door, stairs or freight elevator to the spot.

  2. 2

    Build

Big walls arrive as panels, get joined in place and are then fluffed until the seams vanish.

  3. 3

    Finish

Signs, vinyl, foil accents and lights go on last, and we check the wall from where the photos will be taken.

What's the best way to hang balloons on a wall? Put them on a frame that stands in front of the wall instead of on the wall itself. If you do attach balloons directly, use removable hooks with fishing line instead of tape, and test any adhesive somewhere it won't show.

Longevity

How Long Do Balloon Walls Last?

Air-filled walls last several days indoors. Helium walls last a matter of hours.

Inside with the air conditioning on, an air-filled organic or grid wall keeps its shape for several days and often a full week, and foil walls outlast both. A floating helium wall begins to sag within hours. If your wall is going outside between June and September, keep it in the shade and have it built that day, because Charlotte heat and sun cloud and pop latex quickly. A barn venue without air conditioning counts as outside.

Questions

Balloon Walls in Charlotte: FAQ

What is a balloon wall?

A balloon wall is a solid, self-standing panel of balloons, usually 6 to 10 feet across, that serves as a photo backdrop, a stage background or the wall behind a dessert table. It can be built organic, as a grid, inside a shaped frame or from foil balloons.

How much does a balloon wall cost in Charlotte?

Our foil walls start at $110 for 8×5 ft, grid walls at $395 and full organic walls at $575 for 8×8 ft, delivered and set up. The size, style and any extras decide the final price.

How long do balloon walls last?

Air-filled walls inside stay full for several days and often a week, and foil walls hold up even longer. Floating helium walls last a few hours, and outdoor walls in full summer sun don't make it much past the party.

What size balloon wall do I need?

Most people choose 8×8 ft, which covers a group photo or a cake table. A 6×6 ft wall suits smaller rooms and couples, while 8×10 ft and custom widths suit stages and long head tables.

Will a balloon wall damage my walls?

No. Every wall we build stands on a weighted frame in front of your wall, so tape, nails and glue never come near the paint.

What do you call balloons linked together into a wall?

That's a grid wall, also called a link wall. Linking balloons connect into a net, which makes neat rows and lets us lay out patterns, letters and logos.

Can a balloon wall be latex-free?

Yes. A foil (mylar) wall contains no latex, so it's the safe choice for guests with latex allergies and for venues that prohibit it.

Can you add a name or logo to a balloon wall?

Yes. Names go on in custom vinyl or as a light-up sign. Logos sit on a panel set into the wall, or we build them into a grid wall using your brand colors.
